Taiwan is an island in East Asia. The main island of Taiwan is known as Formosa.

The northern part of the island has a rainy season from January to March, the hot and humid weather is from June to September but October to December are the best months of the year. Typhoons and earthquakes are common.

Taiwan has a heavy pollution problem because of the number of people living on the island and the amount of factories in production. The air quality has improved since a law, stating only unleaded petrol is to be used, was passed. Motorbikes create a lot of pollution as many are old or of the cheap two stroke type.

Water pollution also creates a huge problem with the large majority of untreated sewage being dumped into waterways.
